Thirty-four JC Scholars from the 2024/25 Cohort of the Chairman's Scholarship and Striding On Scholarship participated in “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships - Oxford Character and Leadership Programme” held at the University of Oxford, from 10 August to 15 August 2025. 

The programme seeks to transform JC Scholars' perceptions of effective leadership by emphasising that it is rooted in strong and good character.  Participants are encouraged to engage in critical and creative thinking while developing leadership skills that fulfill personal goals and contribute to the broader community.

The week-long programme included lectures, experiential learning, group projects, and interactive workshops on leadership, character development, time management, and public speaking, along with guided tours of Oxford's iconic sites.  In addition to traditional classroom learning, Oxford's high table dinners with distinguished speakers provided JC Scholars with invaluable networking opportunities and unique experiences.

Feedback from JC Scholars

• Before joining the leadership programme, I viewed leadership as control or authority, but my experiences during the programme reshaped this understanding.

• I have deepened my self-awareness and confidence by recognising my strengths and areas for improvement.  I understand that both excessive and deficient vices can have an impact, which makes me more mindful of my actions in daily life, studies and work.

• Character is not something you are born with; it is shaped by the lessons and insights gained from experiences.  I have acquired valuable knowledge from this week and look forward to applying new strategies, including time management and behavioural tools, in my life.
