Overview
This Scholarship is awarded to students with exceptional academic achievement to pursue undergraduate studies in Hong Kong. It is open to eligible applicants from Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, and other countries and regions. Students apply before entering university, typically in their final year of secondary school. Students currently studying in secondary schools in Hong Kong should apply through principal nomination.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Demonstrate exceptional standard of academic performance;
Have a strong intention and likelihood to matriculate in a University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded undergraduate programme at any one of the eight UGC-funded institutions or an undergraduate programme at HKAPA for their first undergraduate degree; and
Be taking their university-entrance public examination for the first time in the same academic year as the time of their application.
All eligible students are welcome to apply for the Chairman's Scholarship, regardless of their nationality or citizenship.
Selection Criteria
The selection for the Chairman's Scholarship will comprehensively evaluate:
The applicant's track record of academic excellence, such as the achievement of 5** in five or more subjects and "Attained" level in Citizenship and Social Development in the HKDSE or 45 out of 45 in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (or equivalent in other public examinations);
The applicant's leadership and non-academic achievements;
The applicant's commitment to service and improving the lives of others; and
The applicant's financial condition may be considered when applicants are of equal standing.
Scholarship Coverage
The Scholarship supports students to pursue their undergraduate studies in Hong Kong:

Notes for Secondary Schools
Students currently studying in secondary schools in Hong Kong should apply through principal nomination. Secondary schools shall upload and submit all application materials on behalf of the nominated students.
The principal of each secondary school can nominate up to three students with exceptional academic performance and high likelihood of obtaining top scores in the public university-entrance examination each year. An ideal candidate is a student who is likely to obtain 5** in five or more subjects and "Attained" level in Citizenship and Social Development in the HKDSE or 45 out of 45 in the International Baccalaureate (or equivalent in other public examinations).
It will be at the discretion and decision of the school principals to nominate applicants for the Chairman's Scholarship. Interested students should approach their secondary schools for more information on the schools' internal selection and nomination details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. If the applicant is shortlisted, they would need to attend the interview for both scholarships. However, each person may only receive one concurrent scholarship offer from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships. Secondary schools principals are reminded that they can only nominate a limited number of students for the Scholarships (up to three students for Chairman’s Scholarship and two students for Striding On Scholarship).
The supporting documents are listed in the application forms and the Scholarships Secretariat will also notify the shortlisted applicants via email and request for providing additional supporting documents for verification purpose. Depending on applicants’ background and experiences stated in the application, these supporting documents include but are not limited to, report cards/ transcripts of the past three years with Principal's endorsement, proof of financial condition, certificates/ letters issued by recognised organisation/association, and other documents as evidence of achievement and/or extra-curricular activities stated in the application forms.
