Overview
The Scholarship recognises students who have achieved excellence while demonstrating resilience and strength of mind in overcoming adversity or life challenges. It supports their undergraduate studies in Hong Kong. Students apply before entering university, typically in their final year of secondary school. Students currently studying in secondary schools in Hong Kong should apply through principal nomination.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong, or have entered Hong Kong on One-way Permits;
Be studying in a local secondary school in Hong Kong;
Have a strong intention and likelihood to matriculate in a University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded undergraduate programme at any one of the eight UGC-funded institutions or an undergraduate programme at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for their first undergraduate degree;
Demonstrate resilience and strength of mind to overcome adversity or challenges in life and achieve excellence; and
Be taking their university-entrance public examination for the first time in the same academic year as the time of their application.
Selection Criteria
The selection of the recipient for the Striding On Scholarship will comprehensively evaluate:
The excellence of the applicant's achievements;
The severity of the applicant's adversities or challenges; and
The applicant's track record or aspirations for bringing positive impact to their community.
Scholarship Coverage
The scholarship supports students to pursue their undergraduate studies in Hong Kong:

Notes for Secondary Schools
All applications for The Hong Kong Jockey Club Striding On Scholarship must be submitted through a nomination from the secondary school principal.
The principal of each secondary school can nominate up to two students; nominations are at the discretion and decision of the principal. Interested students should approach their secondary schools for more information on the schools' internal selection and nomination details.
This Scholarship aims to recognise students who have achieved excellence while demonstrating resilience and strength of mind to overcome adversities or challenges in life. These adversities or challenges may stem from various causes, including but not limited to: special educational needs or other forms of disabilities; health needs; prejudices on account of the individual's race, gender or religious beliefs; hardships of all types (financial or otherwise), or other extenuating personal or familial circumstances.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. If the applicant is shortlisted, they would need to attend the interview for both scholarships. However, each person may only receive one concurrent scholarship offer from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships. Secondary schools principals are reminded that they can only nominate a limited number of students for the Scholarships (up to three students for Chairman’s Scholarship and two students for Striding On Scholarship).
The supporting documents are listed in the application forms and the Scholarships Secretariat will also notify the shortlisted applicants via email and request for providing additional supporting documents for verification purpose. Depending on applicants’ background and experiences stated in the application, these supporting documents include but are not limited to, report cards/ transcripts of the past three years with Principal's endorsement, proof of financial condition, certificates/ letters issued by recognised organisation/association, and other documents as evidence of achievement and/or extra-curricular activities stated in the application forms.
