What does it mean to live with purpose? How can we transform our skills into tools for meaningful change? Ms Lillian Kiang, Chief Executive Officer of Bei Shan Tang Foundation, inspired JC Scholars by reflecting on her personal journey and challenging us to rethink how we shape our careers and life choices.

From a successful career in Investment and Finance to a purposeful path in Philanthropy, Ms Kiang shared how her passion for education and volunteerism guided her transition. She described her own period of “soul search” and encouraged scholars to reflect deeply on questions such as:

Ms Kiang also introduced the concept of positive education, highlighting its relevance in changing landscape in Asia. She encouraged scholars to give themselves permission to feel, to embrace conflicts, and to practice gratitude — reminding us that nothing should be taken for granted. She emphasised that emotion is not a sign of weakness, but a powerful indicator of resilience
