Induction Programme 2019 Kicks Off the Journey of New Scholars

2019-06-19

The latest cohort of undergraduate JC Scholars experienced a fruitful kick-start of their development journey with a Welcome Day on 1 June and an Induction Camp from 17 to 19 June 2019.

On the Welcome Day, Scholars spent the morning in a docent tour in Tai Kwun, the centre of heritage and arts revitalised by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. In the afternoon, they visited the world-class racing facilities at Shatin Racecourse, including the Equine Hospital, the Forge and the Stables. The day ended on a high note with Scholars meeting the Club’s apprentice jockeys and feeding race horses with great fun.

Two weeks after the Welcome Day, Scholars reunited at the Induction Camp for a 3-day empowerment programme themed “Designing Transformative Changes – Me to We”.

The first day of the camp aims to foster among Scholars a sense of understanding and empathy towards the community through eye-opening visits to subdivided flats, ethnic minorities community and the centre of “Open Up”, an online youth emotional support initiative by the Trust. On the following days, from macro to micro, Scholars reflected on their goals and actions towards the path to compassionate leaders following a design thinking framework. To inspire the Scholars in the course of designing their own life, they were joined by young people from exotic countries and local teachers and social workers who shared how they created social impact through innovation. As a tradition, Scholars from previous cohorts joined the camp to meet the new Scholars, sharing their experience as programme facilitators and during the evening networking activities.

Embarking on a new journey, the new Scholars walked away with a refreshed mind, empowered soul and new friendship with fellow Scholars who share a common passion to contribute to the wider society.
