​Overview

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Scholarship enables young talents of outstanding calibre in music and dance to pursue professional performing arts studies at world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong.

 

Through this initiative, awardees are given the opportunity to fully dedicate themselves to their artistic development and pursuits. The Scholarship provides three programmes, tailored to support students at different stages of their artistic journey including Junior, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.

​Eligibility

Junior Programme: 
For applicants aged 19 or below, the programme supports up to four years of studies in junior or pre-college programmes in music or dance at world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong.
 

Applicants must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Hong Kong;

  • Have received at least three years of continuous full-time education in Hong Kong;

  • Be aged 19 or below <Note 1>;

  • Have a strong track record of outstanding achievement in music or dance;

  • Demonstrate exceptional talent and artistic excellence in music or dance for entry to world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong;

  • Exhibit leadership qualities and a deep commitment to contribute to Hong Kong;

  • Fulfil all application procedures and admission requirements of their chosen institution and subsequently be offered a place <Note 2>; and

  • Have not previously received the Scholarship (or The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund) for the Junior Programme.

 
Undergraduate Programme: 
The programme supports young talents of outstanding calibre in music or dance to pursue their undergraduate studies at world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong for up to four years.
 

Applicants must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Hong Kong <Note 1>;

  • Have received at least three years of continuous full-time education in Hong Kong;

  • Have a strong track record of outstanding achievement in music or dance;

  • Demonstrate exceptional talent and artistic excellence in music or dance for entry to world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong;

  • Exhibit leadership qualities and a deep commitment to contribute to Hong Kong;

  • Fulfil all application procedures and admission requirements of their chosen institution and subsequently be offered a place <Note 2>; and

  • Have not previously received the Scholarship (or The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund) for the Undergraduate Programme.

 
Postgraduate Programme (Master’s & Doctoral Degree): 
This programme supports students with exceptional artistic achievements in music or dance to pursue a Master’s degree (up to two years) or a Doctoral degree (up to three years) at world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong.
 

Applicants must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Hong Kong;

  • Have received at least three years of continuous full-time education in Hong Kong;

  • Have a strong track record of outstanding achievement in music or dance;

  • Demonstrate exceptional talent and artistic excellence in music or dance for entry to world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong;

  • Exhibit leadership qualities and a deep commitment to contributing to Hong Kong;

  • Hold a good honours degree obtained in Hong Kong or an equivalent qualification, or be expected to obtain such a qualification;

  • Fulfil all application procedures and admission requirements of their chosen institution and subsequently be offered a place <Note 2>; and

  • Have not previously received the Scholarship (or The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund) for the Postgraduate Programme.

Note 1: Applicants under 18 must obtain a guarantee from a parent or legal guardian. 
Note 2: Applicants must meet all entry requirements of their intended programme and institution. At the time of confirming the scholarship award, they must have secured unconditional admission to one of the intended programmes and institutions listed in their application. Failure to do so may result in withdrawal of the award.

​Selection Criteria

The selection for the Scholarship will comprehensively evaluate the following information about the applicant:

  • Track record of artistic excellence;

  • Track record of performance achievements;

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service; and

  • Leadership qualities and character.

​Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship supports students in pursuing professional training in music or dance at world-renowned institutions outside Hong Kong (duration as specified in each programme):

All Hong Kong permanent residents with a proven record of outstanding achievement in music or dance.

Applicants under 18 must obtain parental or legal guardian guarantee.

The scholarship scheme supports professional training in music or dance performance or studies directly related to music or dance performance (including choreography). The scheme does not support non-performance programme such as arts administration, arts criticism, musicology, composition, music theory, music or dance education, music or dance therapy.

Yes. Unconditional admission to the intended programme is required at the time the scholarship is awarded.

Tuition fees, accommodation, health insurance, return flight tickets, maintenance fees, and approved learning subsidies.

Normally, previous awardees of the same scholarship scheme cannot re-apply.

The process includes initial screening by expert panels, followed by interviews and auditions, and final selection endorsed by the Selection Panel.
